Unlike many other providers, our Republic of Ireland consultants are employed and resident within our clinics, allowing them to deliver consistent, consultant-led care at every stage of the patient journey. Our cross-border consultants have been part of the Veonet team for over three years, performing thousands of cataract procedures for patients and contributing to our reputation for excellence in surgical outcomes.

Farah Ibrahim

MBChB, MSc, DRCOphth, MRCOphth, FEBO

Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Specialist: Diabetic Eye Disease
Resident: Cork and Dublin Carrickmines


Farah earned her medical degree from the University of Leicester and completed ophthalmology training in Ireland. With eight years at the National Diabetic Treatment Clinic, Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital, and further experience at the Institute of Eye Surgery/UPMC Kildare Hospital, she has led multidisciplinary teams across several clinics, including Ballincollig Primary Care Centre.

A member of both the UK and Irish Colleges of Ophthalmologists, she is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with diabetic eye disease through innovation and compassionate care.

Mireia Roca Cabau

MD, PhD

Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Specialist: Vitreoretinal & Cataract Surgery
Resident: Dublin Carrickmines and Cork


Trained at the University of Lleida and Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid, followed by senior Vitreoretinal fellowships at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. She holds a PhD with Cum Laude distinction from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid for research on intraocular retinoblastoma and has contributed to multiple retinal disease trials. Passionate about global eye health, she helped establish the Retina Department at La Clinique des Yeux in Dakar, Senegal.

Fluent in four languages, she combines international expertise with a patient‑centred approach.

Desislava Andreeva

Title: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
Specialist: Cataract and Dry Eye Disease
Resident: Dublin Carrickmines and Cork


With extensive experience across public and private healthcare in Ireland and the UK She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of Sofia in 2013 and completed her specialist training in 2019, achieving her CCST in Surgical Ophthalmology. After working in the UK, she relocated to Ireland in 2022, where she continues to provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care. She is registered with both the Irish and UK Medical Councils.

Ahmed Saad

MBBS, MSc, MD, FRCOphth

Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Specialist: Vitreoretinal & Cataract Surgery
Resident: Belfast and Cross border


With over 18 years’ experience in eye care, including three years at Veonet Belfast. He specialises in vitreoretinal and cataract surgery and serves as Clinical Lead for Vitreoretinal Surgery. He holds medical, MSc, and MD degrees from Zagazig University, Egypt, and completed fellowships in Medical Retina/Uveitis and Vitreoretinal Surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital. An Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, he contributes to teaching and research while specialising in macular disease, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusion.

Mr Saad is known for his surgical precision and patient‑focused care.

Prateek Agarwal

Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Specialist: Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery
Resident: Belfast and Cross border


Performing over 1,500 eye surgeries annually, he has authored 25 peer‑reviewed publications and lectures internationally on cataract and refractive surgery. As Chief Educational Supervisor, he mentors trainees and examines for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Laser Refractive Surgery assessment process.
